it’s amazing what ai can do now. and frankly i love it for the things that i dont want to do. so when ai first started shipping in applications, i was excited that many things that previously annoyed me could go away. one super simple, albiet stupid, example; i eat tortellini every night and post a photo on bluesky to prove to friends that i truly eat tortellini almost every night for dinner. as you can imagine this wastes a ton of the precious and expensive iCloud storage, so after every post i have to go delete the photos.

so when apple announces you could use siri ai in shortcuts, i was excited! i could use siri ai to find photos of tortellini and then delete them. i’ll spoil it for you. this super simple thing can’t currently be done.

and this is probably why “ai” frustrates me so much, especially when it’s added to products because while it could be amazing, the underlying interfaces that the ai has the ability to use, suck. so smeering an abstraction on top of a poor abstraction or interface doesn’t magically make it work, yet society at large right now is hyping it up like it does. “ai this” and “ai that”. every single thing has “ai” now.
